BIO André Jones is a father, husband, unique African American graphics artist, and a modern day renaissance man. Using his spiritual gift of the visual arts, André redefines urban community landscapes with his emotionally captivating works. These works can be found on the walls, canvases, and clothing worldwide.André Jones was born and raised in Northern Virginia. As a military brat with a passionate love for soccer and drawing, his upbringing has influenced his life as an artist and businessman. André nurtured his craft at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he chose art over a career in soccer. He graduated with a major in Commercial Art and a minor in Illustration. His free-lance career began in the mid 90’s working for a T-shirt silk-screening company right outside of Richmond, Va.Learning how to print his own designs onto t-shirts, André quickly built a loyal fan base amongst college peers. Before graduating from V.C.U. André founded his own graphics company, Natty Rebel Unlimited. Subsequently, in the fall of 2001 he moved to Brooklyn, New York to pursue further artistic endeavors. While there, he commuted to Harlem by day teaching at The Children's Aid Society, concurrently designing and printing at night. His trendy clothing and art hit the streets of NYC, gaining the attention of urban and contemporary icons such as Mos Def, Raven-Symone, and The Marley Family." Art is survival and I use it for good. To educate, stimulate and motivate myself and others."In 2004 André, journeyed to Philadelphia where he worked with prominent organizations like The Mural Arts Program, U.PENN-P.Y.A.P.(Philadelphia Youth Advocacy Program) and University of the Arts-P.A.E.P.(Philadelphia Arts & Education Partnership). The combination of his talent and youth services secured his mission to Ethiopia in 2007. There, he was commissioned to paint the backdrop for the Adama Ethiopia Millennium Celebration, featuring Juilan Marley and Andrew Tosh. André’s largest mural is located in Philadelphia on the back of the entire Walter Palmer Jr. Elementary School Gymnasium. His passion for life and art continues to drive André to produce visual stimulation."It's about creating in the Now! I want to harness reality and make work that speaks to the colorfully diverse communities we live in today. I always try and see the larger picture and then depict my interruption. This is a marvelous book of Curtis' poetry that vibrantly illustrates divine love. It has been a work inThere are also vivid illustrations by Katie Benso, Natty Rebel, Nick LaBeau, Darren Schlack, Rebekah Rossi and Mark Skovorodko, which accompany this enormous message of grace.After serving five years with the Navy, Curtis went on to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Biblical Studies at Biola University in La Mirada, CA. He is now nearing the completion of a Masters of Divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. Throughout this time, Curtis has been writing poetry, drawing on his experiences and reading in theology, philosophy, literature, and psychology. Curtis has had many opportunities to share the message of unconditional love and grace through poetry and speaking in churches, schools, lounges, and on retreats. By Curtis JonesMom and Pops loved their children dinosaur colossal,Years after we left you can see the proof like fossils,I wish time could do the impossible and give us back our years,No more illusions life is hostile, Pops would say take 3 steps forward cause the world will push you one backward,Completed your mission like apostles, to get us out on our own,Momma said work, college or military but your not gonna stay home,I failed at two before I found my placement,Dre always knew art was gonna be his foundation,Yes! They completed their mission like apostles, to get us out on our own,So now I write this poem to show em, what they may have never known,All your love has registered shaking us to the bone,And although now we’re physically severed,We feel the after-shocks of your love way outside Virginia’s zone,From Philly to Okinawa, Iraq the land of Babylon,Care packages on the sea for me, diapers and clothes for Dre & Deeda’s babies,None of it goes unnoticed yes we drink it up like sodas,Somehow you always came with more,Still one of Pops favorite sayings was “Money doesn’t grow on trees boy!”Momma could always cook, And man how I miss those meals, Except I’d be at the table looking mean, sometimes until 3,Hearing, “You’re not going anywhere unless you finish those greens,”Pops brought the hospitality the way no one else could,By saying to all who came over, “Do ya wanna hook?”,You did what it took and tried to keep our heads in the books,And though sometimes we’d look, we were more interested in the field,Focused on the girls and our preeminent soccer skills,Committed to hard practice and determination, Where’d we get that from?It was yawl that had the patience to drive us up and down the nation,There at every game biggest fans hoping that we won,
